Watt Clock Colour Mix

The Watt Clock is an energy visualisation product I designed to improve the awareness of domestic energy use. The device uses the same colour-coding approach I developed for the Watt Socket, with a yellow, amber or red illumination for either a low, medium or high level of energy consumption respectively.

The product was inspired by research that showed how energy consumers begin to ignore numerical energy monitors after they have been installed for a while. The Watt Clock allows users to receive real-time energy information in a simple, accessible way every time they glance at the clock face.

The device collects a radio frequency signal from a sensor connected at the user’s existing electricity meter and uses these readings to visualise the real-time energy consumption for a whole property. The face of the clock changes colour based on the data received. The clock also tells the time.
